Inauguration  of e-book SexPolitics - Spanish version

By Nancy Worthington and M. Muñoz-Laboy*

At a special reception on August 4th, 2008, during the XVII International AIDS Conference in Mexico City, SPW celebrated the publication of the Spanish translation of SexPolitics – Políticas sobre sexualidad: Reportes desde las líneas del frente – available in paperback and as a CD-ROM.

SexPolitics/Políticas sobre sexualidad is the culmination of nearly four years of research and analysis carried out by SPW researchers and collaborators. It examines the impacts that political transformations, economic restructuring, trends toward religious conservatism, and new social and political movements have had on the sexual health and freedoms of individuals from around the world.

SPW steering committee member, Gloria Careaga, and SPW researcher, Carlos Cáceres, led efforts to have SexPolitics translated into Spanish. SPW was pleased to share copies of SexPolitics/Políticas sobre sexualidad with the more than 50 people who had attended the Mexico City reception. Over 100 copies of SexPolitics/Políticas sobre sexualidad were also distributed at the Global Village, the only AIDS Conference venue open to both conference delegates and non-delegates. Global Village attracts a diverse crowd of students, activists, researchers, journalists, and direct service providers, and we believe our presence there was a positive first step at dissemination of this publication.

Carlos Cáceres plans to honor SexPolitics/Políticas sobre sexualidad in a launching event in Peru. Our next goal is to raise funds for the translation of SexPolitics into French.
