Read some papers in Spanish and English presented during the SELA 2009 that took place in Paraguay, in last June. This is an annual gathering in the Southern Cone organized by Yale Law School Projects in South America, which brings together scholars from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Perú, Puerto Rico, Spain and the United States.Â

Abortion stigma is widely acknowledged in many countries, but poorly theorised. Although media accounts often evoke abortion stigma as a universal social fact, in this, article written by Anuradha Kumara, Leila Hessinia and Ellen M.H. Mitchellb, they suggest that the social production of abortion stigma is profoundly local.

In this article, published at CLAM’s website, Paula Vianna analyzes the case of the 9 year old girl who had an abortion after being raped by her stepfather and impregnated with twins. Paula Vianna (Grupo Curumim) is the nurse who helped the girl and her mother find a hospital where they could be assisted.
