SPW participates in the research EroTICs

In April 2009, SPW was selected to conduct, in partnership with CLAM – Latin American Center on Sexuality and Human Rights, the investigation of the Brazilian case for the EroTICs: Sexuality and the internet – an exploratory research project. Organized by the Women’s Networking Support Programme of the Association for Progressive Communications (APC WNSP), this is a cross-country research initiative on sexuality and the internet.

The general aim is to explore how internet use and online practice affect notions of sexuality rights in society at large as well as the impact of regulatory policy and censorship on sexualities, sexual health and sexual rights. Five other countries are participating in the EroTICs research: India, Egypt/Lebanon, USA and South Africa.

Between April and June the joint team SPW-CLAM has performed the exploratory mapping of the Brazilian scenario in what concerns Internet regulation and has prepared a concept note to guide the research.

The research will continue to be developed until the end of 2010 and it will be write an analytical country report on internet content regulation practices and developments, and its impact on women’s sexual expression, sexualities, exercise of sexual rights and sexual health practices.
