Inauguration of e-book SexPolitics - English version

By M. Muñoz-Laboy*

On November 8th, 2007, the Columbia University secretariat of SPW hosted a meeting to officially inaugurate the e-book SexPolitics: Reports from the Front Lines, one of the main achievements of the global policy monitoring project. Approximately 60 people attended the opening seminar held at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health in New York City.

The event started with introductions by SPW co-chairs and Ros Petchesky, who introduced the SPW policy monitoring project and provided an overview of the e-book. Dr. Allan Rosenfield, Dean of the Mailman School of Public Health and internationally renowned scholar and advocate for women’s health and rights, welcomed the researchers and appraised SPW’s success in fostering global debates and advancing research and advocacy on sexual, gender and reproductive health rights.

Carlos Cáceres, Wanda Nowicka, Le Minh Giang presented overviews of their e-book chapters, followed by closing remarks by Constance Nathanson, who presented a cross-cutting analysis of all the case studies. This event marked the culmination of the first stage of policy analyses and the beginning of a firm presence on the online global debates on sexuality.
